How often should fuel injector cleaner be used after a bad batch of gas?

Wife filled up at (dare I say) 7-11 and soon after the check engine light came on. Took it to AutoZone to check the codes. The code was for the knock sensor so the Tech suggested using some fuel injector cleaner. After about burning through half the tank the light has gone off.
