Stop going to college? Help?

I'm 16 and my mom wants me to stop studying for a year to go to japan because I was diagnosed with myocarditis and mitral valve prolapse and i have to be treated there. I really don't want to stop studying because I don't want to be left behind by my batch :( the thought of starting over again (new friends, new classmates) frightens me... Please no harsh remarks, I'm really confused over this..
